Advent means “beginning.” This four-week season opens the new Church year. It’s a time of preparation and joyful anticipation. During this short season, our tradition invites us to reflect on how we might “prepare the way of the Lord” as the birth of Christ approaches. At St. Peter’s, we use the color purple this season - denoting both royalty and penance (in the past, Advent was called the “little Lent” and had a more penitential focus than it generally does today).
